Amateurs Travis Smyth and Min Woo Lee also finished under-par at the Australian Open

ROSE BAY, Australia (November 20, 2016) -- Curtis Luck continued his run of impressive golf on Sunday by earning low amateur honors at the Australian Open. Luck put together his third under-par round of the week at Royal Sydney Golf Club with a 3-under 69 to finish 7-under. “I’m happy to come away as leading amateur, but yet again I feel like I’ve learned a lot this week and it’s another great lesson to learn before my next six months of golf,” Luck told Golf Australia. Luck bogeyed the 3rd and 4th holes before turning his day around with four birdies in a five hole stretch from Nos. 6-10. The reigning U.S. and Asia-Pacific Amateur then capped his week with a birdie on No. 17. The birdie on the penultimate hole pushed Luck into a tie for 11th with Nick Cullen and Nathan Green. During the first two days Luck got a chance to play with now two-time Australian Open winner Jordan Spieth and although he didn't have a chance to a sit down with the two-time major winner and talk about the upcoming Masters he did score a conveted phone number or two. "I did get Jordan’s number and his caddie’s (Michael Greller's number)," Luck said. "So I hopefully can call them and arrange a practice round with him and maybe play a little in lead-up or afterwards.” Luck also said he learned a lot just by observing those he played with this week at Royal Sydeny Golf Club, "I watched Jhonny (Vegas) today and to have played with Jordan and Geoff (Ogilvy) was amazing to just watch how they go about their business. I think Spieth would agree he didn’t have his A-game here this week and yet still managed to do so well and win the Aussie Open." Travis Smyth finished second in the amatuer race with a 72-hole 4-under tally that put him in a tie for 28th. Smyth birdied three-times during the final round. 54-hole amateur leader Min Woo Lee ended up 3-under in a tie of 35. The 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur winner strugged Sunday with a 3-over 75. Amateurs Harrison Endycott and Zach Murray also made the cut with Endycott sharing 59th at 2-over while Murray was 3-over in a tie for 61st. -Golf Australia contributed to this story
